Rethinking Creativity and Innovation for Entrepreneurship in the Digital Era: a LEGO® Serious Play® session

Open to University of Bedfordshire students and alumni

Creativity and innovation are two of the most overused words in business, and two of the least examined. This session is part of our CreaTech.eu project at the University of Bedfordshire Business School. It asks what these words actually mean when you're trying to build something new in a digital economy.

What is LEGO Serious Play?

LEGO Serious Play is a structured facilitation method that organisations and researchers use to think through complex problems. You answer questions by building models before you talk. Every model has a story and a meaning, and everyone at the table contributes, not just the loudest voice.

What happens in the session

You'll work through a series of guided building challenges, first on your own and then in groups. You'll build your ideas about creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, explain them, take them apart and rebuild them as your thinking shifts. The aim is to question assumptions, not to produce a perfect answer.

What you'll take away

A clearer, more critical understanding of what creativity and innovation mean in practice for digital-era entrepreneurship, beyond the buzzwords.

A way to make an abstract or half-formed idea tangible. It could be a business idea, a career direction or a problem you're stuck on.

Practice in explaining and defending your thinking, and adapting it when others challenge it. This is a core skill for pitching, teamwork and interviews.

Hands-on experience of a facilitated method used in industry and research, which you can mention on your CV or in your professional development record.

Anyone curious about entrepreneurship, innovation, or the creative and digital industries. You don't need any LEGO experience or a business idea.
