This video is part of our ongoing Student Rights campaign, designed to help students understand the support available to them during difficult times.

In this short interview, Hauwa asks what “mitigation” means in a university context. They discuss how mitigation helps students facing unexpected personal, medical, or academic challenges.

Hauwa and Jon discuss the possible outcomes of a mitigation claim and how these decisions can impact your studies, deadlines, and overall academic journey.

Steps to Take:

  • Submit your request via the SID portal as soon as possible.
  • Include evidence (e.g., medical notes, letters) in PDF, Word, or JPEG format.
  • Do not submit work or attend the exam if you plan to apply—mitigation cannot be applied retroactively.
  • Submit within 7 calendar days of the affected deadline.
  • Only the SEAM team can approve mitigation—academic staff cannot.
