Next week there will be two Industrial Strikes taking place that may impact you with regards to your student experience.

University support services

The first will be staged by UNISON members, which includes support staff here at the University of Bedfordshire. Please be aware key students services may be disrupted by this action between Monday 2, Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 October. To the best of our knowledge, teaching and classes should be continuing as normal during this time.

There may also be a presence of staff observing this action outside our campuses. Please be reassured you are free to pass through those participating in the strike and may simply be handed a leaflet on the reasons why the Industrial Action is taking place.

If you feel that your student experience has been negatively impacted by the strike, Beds SU can help you access a number of University processes, whether you would benefit from an extension to an upcoming deadline, or would like to lodge a complaint. Please contact help@bedssu.co.uk. If you are in need of advice and support please head to our website here for details on how to contact an advisors or you may find the answer to your question in our FAQs.

As a student-led democratic organisation, we may ONLY support strike action in the University if you, our members, have established policy in the SU for doing so – for example requesting that we should join the picket line or strike in solidarity.

We do not have a policy of this kind in place and all Beds SU services will be OPEN as normal during this time. In Lutin this includes the Metro (Luton) your SU venue on the Mezzanine floor, G block. If you are looking for a space to study, socialise or get some refreshments on campus please come join us, we are open 9am - 6pm.

Please also note all planned evening events will also go ahead as planned in both Luton and Bedford.

Train strikes:

National Rail has also announced that from Saturday 30 September through to Friday 6 October there will strike action that will cause serious disruption and delays across a number of rail networks. If you need to travel to campus via train please check route in advance.  There may be replacement bus services but these could be busier than normal.  You can find out all information here.
