2024/25 has been an eventful year! With a new Student Affairs Committee being elected and Cultural events spanning the year, there has been so much to watch and enjoy and the Beacon crew have been there every step of the way.

The beginning of the year saw the addition of three new members; Amia as our editor, Aisha as our co-editor and Baraa as our photographer. Between the three, they have produced content that has been widely appreciated with over 2,000 student views across our digital platforms making this content some of the most engaging on our platforms.
From poetry to captivating imagery, the Beacon has made an effort to showcase a diverse range of content from different perspectives that reflects a broad view of the student experience. A special mention goes out to the two highest performing content pieces that alone had over 1,000 views between them. These were the powerful 'When I realised I was black article' and the thought provoking 'What has Christmas become' which can be read by clicking on the links.
Baraa has been instrumental in showcasing imagery from the Student perspective. Being an international student, he documented his first 100 days in the country, captured how students in the UK celebrate Halloween and even caught the vibe of Beds SU's first ever 'Beds's House' event. All this great work helped him win the Volunteer of the Year award at the 2025 Beds SU Awards Night in May!
Amia, Aisha and Baraa, thank you for all your work and dedication towards the Beacon this year. The Beacon was launched as a digital media space to showcase student life and matters of importances to our members here at UoB by students for students. There will be a pause in the project while new plans come into play here at the SU but if you have been inspired by the work curated by students to date and wish to be contacted for future opportunities please click link here.
