This past year we have continued to build on our commitment to enhancing and supporting all members throughout their time at university.
We did this by doubling our efforts to gather on the ground feedback from interactions at our Welcome event, out about on campus visits, during inductions and social events. We have received 1,070 piece of feedback this year up from 388 from the two previous years combined! Your willingness to engage in the feedback really does have an impact on what we do, so thank you!
On Campus and in class:
Supporting students on their campuses and on their courses continued with us securing Free Parking for students at Aylesbury.
We championed and helped to secure a new resit dates in semester two.
Your Course Reps continued to deliver on your behalf with over 81% of Course rep positions filled. This increased to a 100% in the schools of Society, Community and Health, Accounting, Finance and Law, Sport Science and Physical Activity and Centre for English as Foreign Language.
Increase in Societies and Student Network presence:
We have loved watching so many societies grow this past year with 73 active societies ranging from academic, social, cultural and sport.
For example, Tuesday evenings continue to be the home of the Games society in Luton with Monday’s ad hoc events growing in Bedford too.
Fibre Crafts has become a weekly fixture on a Monday in our newly created hub area, in Luton, which is also now home to our successful Wellness Wednesday activities which focus on crafting opportunities.
The winners of this year’s Beds SU Society of the Year, The Darts society and the African Caribbean Society both launched new and regular events for members, making up some of the 130 society and student community events delivered this year.
Our LGBTQ+ Network had fantastic and dedicated champions at the helm this year and delivered 10 events for members. Katie’s hard work was recognised in our Students Awards when she collected the Student Communities Rep of the Year award.
Events for all:
We promised more events ranging from afternoon, early evening and late night and not only did we deliver 260 within the year, but we also surpassed our own target of 250. Events ranged from old favourites: Desi and Afro beats, a new Beds House initiative and our first Bengali event. We held our second Drag Queen Bingo and Super Bowl watch party. Continued our weekly film night and hosted an Eid Iftar event, popular Bhangra afternoons, delivered sustainability events, Mental Health walks and Coat and Food parcel drives.
Continuing to support you in challenging moments:
Our dedicated team of Student Advisors continued to offer drop-in appointments both in person and online throughout each term and delivered 408 hours of support with an almost 50% split for preference of in person and online. They also worked through some 472 advice cases with the kindness and commitment we know they are held in regard by you by.
Thank you again to everyone who shared feedback, attended our events, voted in elections or awards. If you want to stay in touch with what’s coming up in September, keep any eye on our socials and your inbox for news later this summer.
