The University of Bedfordshire has a beautiful diverse student population including students from a wealth of cultural backgrounds, which we, your SU and the University seek to celebrate throughout the year. In 2024 we came together to deliver a week of events from music, games, language tasters and a cultural fashion show as part of the International Festival of Culture.
The week proved to be hugely popular amongst our students. We have been working hard to deliver packed week of events for this year and below is a taster of what we have coming up between Monday 17 to Friday 21 February.
Metro highlights by day:
- Monday 17 - British Sports Day - 14:15 - 15:00 - Come along for an afternoon of classic sports day games, from the egg and spoon race to a dress up relay, test your skills and race against your fellow students.
- Tuesday 18 - Bhangra Afternoon 16:00 - 19:00 - Firmly established as a favourite with students, come along to share your skills or learn a routine, all welcome for this uplifting event.
- Wednesday - 19 - Cultural Fashion Show 13:00-14:00 - come dressed proudly in your cultural dress and or support your fellow students in this fantastic event. If you would like to participate there is still time to sign up here.
- Wednesday 19 - International Games Night and Toast 16:00 - 21:00 - Our popular Tuesday social is moving to Wednesday for one week only and will celebrate a variety of board games from around the world, with a slice or two of toast.
- Thursday 20 - My Journey, My Story - 11:00 -12:45-join your Co-President Chidera Umeh for the latest in our professional panel series where we celebrate the stories of the following four individuals:
Yejide Adewakun – Lawyer, Data Governance Consultant, and Founder of BloomElle.
Dr. Samuel Eze – Medical doctor and UoB MBA graduate inspiring growth through mentorship, and business.
Bade Adesemowo – Nigerian technology entrepreneur, investor, and business leader. Co-Founder and CTO of Social Lender.
- Following an initial sit down session, the panelists will return to answer your questions over a bowl of Jollof rice at 14:00 - 15:00.
- Thursday 20 - Afrobeats 23:00 - 03:00 - DJ Holy returns for his first set of the year, here at Beds SU bringing the latest and classic sounds from Afrobeats, Hip Hop and R&B.
Bedford Highlights by day:
- Monday 17 - 13:00 - 15:00 - If you are a seasoned player or fancy trying out then why not come along to our cricket event in the Cricket arena.
- Tuesday 18 - 12:00 - 14:00 - The Hub - we're adding an international twist to our new weekly Sweet Treats Tuesday. Come and join us in some Mandala crafting with a hot drink and treats.
- Wednesday 19 -12:30 - 13:30- The Hub- Whether you are a dab hand or curious about the game all our welcome to our popular table tennis tournament.
- Thursday 20 - 12:00 - 14:00 -Treehouse - join the team at Treehouse for Hot Chocolate and a session in language tasters.
- Thursday 20-18:00 - 22:00 - The Hub - Join us for the showing of the critically acclaimed Bob Marley, One Love film. Free refreshments will also be available.
All events are FREE, with the majority taking place in the SU social spaces, The Metro in Luton and The Hub, in Bedford. However, there will also be activities held in the Treehouse, Gym in Luton, Sports arena in Bedford. To explore all event click here.
