The NUS has announced the names of the newly appointed officers who will take up their two-year tenure in July this year.

Meet the new NUS President Team

The National Union of Students (NUS) held their annual conference in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago (28-29 March) and as part of the conference announced the names of the new NUS Officers.

Shaima Dallali, has been elected NUS President, along with two new Vice Presidents, Chole Field (responsible for Higher Education) and Bernie Savage (responsible for Further Education). The officers will start their term in July this year and will remain in office until 2024.

Shamila, current President of City University London, SU said:

“I am immensely proud and humbled to have been elected NUS National President. Access to Education is a right that should be available to everyone regardless of who they are and where they’re from.

“Fighting to challenge injustices is central to our vision as students and with the support of grassroots organisations, we have the opportunity to challenge institutional frameworks that seek to limit the accessibility and experience of students and staff in education.” 

Voting was open to 636 delegates from NUS member students’ unions between 16 March and 28 March with an overall 84.5% turnout of voters recorded.

In addition to these newly appointed officers, Nehaal Bajwa was elected as the next Vice President for Liberation and Equality. Nehaal who is currently Diversity, Access and Participation Officer at the University of Sussex, SU and will take up this two-year post alongside Shamila, Chole and Bernie. Nehaal was elected at the NUS’s first – in person Liberation conference in Liverpool.
