Being aware of your spending as a student can be difficult, especially in current times. Worry not, there’s plenty of help available to you from student deals, advice for buying second-hand and support from the SU and the University that may help you manage your finances during your student life.

Deals

As a student there are many deals available to you. Sites such as Student Beans and Voucher Codes offer various discounts on products from free Amazon Prime, clothes, electronics, food and more!

Second hand?

Buying second-hand is a great way to get what you need cheaply and sustainably.

Getting the books required for your course second-hand, will often be much cheaper than buying brand new.

Sites like World of Books and AbeBooks sell plenty of second-hand books so get searching and you might find just what you’re looking for. But make sure it is the correct version of the text for your course.

Also, consider buying second-hand clothes from local charity shops. You might find something affordable and unique that you wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else. It’s also a great way of being self-sustainable and supports your local charities.

Community pantry

We are offering short term support to students on our Luton campus via out trial of a Community Pantry. This service FREE for all students, struggling to purchase staples due to the current cost of living crisis.

Students are able to choose 8 items ranging from soup, pasta, rice, tinned vegetables and more!

The trial launched in December 2022 and can be accessed by emailing our advice team. The pantry runs on donations from local charities and we hope to be able to extend the initiative to other campuses. You can find out more details on our Community Pantry page.
