One of the biggest stigmas we face is that looking after yourself , i.e. giving yourself space and downtime is selfish. It’s not. How can you look after someone else or achieve your goals if you don’t take care of yourself first? You need certain things to keep healthy and keeping your mind healthy is just as important as getting psychical exercise. So, we’ve put together a few simple steps can do to keep your mind fit!
Sleep
As simple as it is your body needs at least 6-8 hours a night. Your mind needs time to shut down and relax. But getting a good night sleep can be difficult. Try some of these simple tips to boost better sleep.
• Go to bed the same time every night and wake up the same time every day. Eventually, your body will learn to shut down at these times and sleep will be better.
• Breathing excises, these small actions can really help if you suffer from turning your thoughts off at night. Try listening to these breathing techniques
• No more screens! Stop using your phone, tablet or TV before bed (preferably at least 1 hour before you go to sleep). Try reading a book as this can help calm your mind.

Make time for yourself
Sounds easy but simple acts such as taking a shower and getting fully dressed can help how you feel that day. Try a slightly colder shower as this will help wake your mind up.
Look at yourself, you are fantastic
Take a look in the mirror and say one thing that you are proud of about yourself or you like about yourself. This might seem small, but this has a big impact on your self-esteem.
Get outside
Go for a walk , whether it’s just down your street, the local park, woodlands or a stroll in the countryside. Being out in nature and green spaces has been proven to really help boost mental health. If you can’t get out try caring for a plant indoors as this can help too.
Take a happiness hour
Just one hour just for you to do whatever makes you smile. Whether this is cuddling your pet on the sofa, watching a movie, hanging out with friends or baking. Just do something that puts a smile on your face.
