The NUS (National Union of Students) champions students to shape the future of education and to create a better world. Education is the defining factor in creating a fairer, more prosperous society, and students are the hope for the future of education.
In this post, we bring you news of their latest campaign.
No ifs - No buts - No COP outs!
The COP26 climate summit is a pivotal moment.
The COP26 climate summit is happening in Glasgow RIGHT NOW! This is a pivotal moment for our planet and the clock is ticking.Boris Johnson will be hosting leaders from around the world, and he has one opportunity to get a vital deal to help us avert full-on climate catastrophe.
At BedsSU we are joining the email lobby (started by NUS) calling for divestment from industries harming people and the planet, decarbonisation of our education and our economy, and for world leaders to listen to grassroots voices on decolonisation.
We don't want to see any ifs - buts - or COP outs!
We are calling on the UK government to;
- divest from fossil fuels, the arms trade, and other unethical industries
- decarbonise the UK economy to enhance the lives of ordinary people, workers and communities
- reimagine the world through a decolonial lens; to fight for a world rooted in peace, justice and liberation
You can get involved with this campaign by using the tool that NUS has provided to email Boris Johnson directly with these demands. Head to the NUS website now to get involved.
As a Union, we wholeheartedly agree with the movement and request the backing of our students.
Many Thanks,
Beds SU Exec Team
