Your feedback and the next steps

We loved talking to over 2,000 of you (and still counting!) during this year’s Welcome events. Some of you have even given us your first set of feedback so read on to see what the Student Voice looks like at Beds SU.

Q. During the Freshers’ Fair in Bedford, you told us that it would be better if Welcome events catered for students with disabilities or were advertised that they are…

A. We can confirm that ALL our events are disability friendly. But for the avoidance of doubt, both our Social Opps and Comms Teams have now committed in including a disclaimer advertising the above in all our upcoming event poster, descriptions, and other relevant promotions.

-----------------------------

Q. Students feel that the University has lots of support systems in place “academically, emotionally, and communally,” which is good to see.

A. We are delighted to see our students already feeling a sense of safety whilst embarking on this new adventure at UoB!

-----------------------------

Q. Our Health and Social Care students in Milton Keynes raised that they have trouble finding affordable parking near their campus during an Induction talk.

A.Thank you for sharing this frustration. In the next Milton Keynes campus newsletter, we will highlight which spaces are of close distance and are also affordable. These have also been added on our Campus Webpage and knowledge-hub. Keep an eye out!

-----------------------------

Q. Several of our students mentioned how they have gotten lost in our campuses once or twice (or many times!) and would like better guidance on how to navigate throughout.

A. Trust us when we say, we were also confused by what an M floor is when we first arrived! But thanks to your feedback, we will be putting together an article/social for each campus giving you some tips and tricks on how to get your way around your campuses. Watch the Luton Campus video on this link

-----------------------------

Q. Social Work students have positively commented on both our Beds SU General and Student Voice Inductions, specifically stating that it was delivered with passion and was found “useful and informative”. However, some felt that some information was repeated.

A. Thank you for this constructive feedback! We love to see it. Our Teams will now ensure we communicate beforehand and skip the basic introduction of what is an SU should’ve a class heard it before!

-----------------------------

Q. We have received reports of students wanting to hear more about what support and resources the University is offering to students with disabilities, including mental health.

A. Beds SU recognises how this can play a big part in the quality of your student experience. We will be re-circulating the most up-to-date information in our next main newsletter, but in the meantime, please find what support and resources the University is in our Mental Health article

-----------------------------

Q. We heard that many of you also had various issues raised in relation to your accommodation - but we want to hear more.

A. We understand that some of you did not have the best welcome when you reached your student accommodation. We need more details. If you were affected, please email us with any evidence at help@bedssu.co.uk: if you’d like to make an individual complaint as well, we can put you in touch with our free, confidential, independent Advice Service

We hope to see these lovely interactions continue in creating positive change for our students, and you can still get involved by being one of our key representatives that support us in doing so. Interested? Click here for more details.

Thank you and keep it coming
