As your Students’ Union, we have been doing lots of research into how the cost-of-living crisis has impacted you! You may have filled out one of our short surveys last term or perhaps you’ve seen our Exec officers take on the ‘under a fiver’ cooking challenge. We understand that being a student can be difficult and recent price increases have made it even more so, not only to attend to University but to enjoy yourselves outside of it.
But the cost-of-living crisis is just one area that we have been collecting feedback in this year. As you already know, there are Three Methods to Feedback: online, in-person, through a Rep. You can use either of those to submit feedback about anything relating to your University experience; assignment briefs, course content, timetabling, extra-curricular activities, accessibility, and the list goes on! And don’t forget that we want the good and the bad: negative feedback lets us know what needs improving, positive feedback tells us what direction we should be improving in.
Back in October, some Arts and Creative Industries students did just that and got in touch with us to express how they would like a space in which they could really put their skills to the test…
And we are happy to announce that this year, we will be holding Beds SU’s first ever Green Fashion Show!
Everyone can participate in the Fashion Show
This opportunity is open to all students! You may have fixed so many school uniforms you’ve lost count, or maybe you’ve never picked up a needle and thread in your life – we want you to get involved!
We can also provide you with a small starter pack, which would include some information about this challenge, a small sewing kit and maybe some inspiration to get you started.
We want you to create something by recycling or upcycling materials, for example old t-shirts or unused bedsheets. We want you to be as creative as possible, but we also want to highlight the importance of recycling as we push towards a greener future.
The theme is Your University Journey. Therefore, anything you create should somehow relate to your time at University. There will be five categories that you could enter:
1. Daytime. Something you might wear to attend lectures
2. Night-time. your outfit choice for a club night in the Metro
3. Accessories. Think belts, hats, scarves, jewellery etc.
4. Footwear. Socks and sandals anyone?
5. Charity Shop Finds. For if you find an absolute gem for a decent price which you did not modify.
And yes, there will be a prize for the winner of each category!
When and where:
We will host the fashion show in the Metro, on Friday 10th March, where you will be able to showcase your creations. Won’t be able to attend? Don’t worry, we will ensure that your designs are still celebrated and kept in the running!
Sign-up is open now and will close on Monday 6th March. Interested? Sign up here to make sure you don’t miss out! We will only ask which category you would like to enter which means you can sign up even if you’re still unsure about what your design may look like.
