We are currently going through a cost of living crisis and at Beds SU we know that students are feeling it and struggling. With that in mind, your Sabbatical Officers have responded to student feedback and looked for ways to support you.
Co-Vice President Amina Awal has been in discussions with the University and external stakeholders and has been able to secure significant investment into our Community Pantries.
£2000 donation
Amina put the case for support across very strongly and the University have agreed to a generous donation of £2,000 to purchase much needed items. Plans to distribute the provisions are currently being made and will include a Food Drive Giveaway on 26 March, restocking of our two pantries in Luton and Bedford and ‘Emergency food parcels’ to be made available across all campuses.
Details of all of these initiatives will be announced very soon so keep an eye out on your email and our Instagram account
United Nations Association
This week, Amina also welcomed Nazia Khanum OBE and David Cheesman from the Luton Branch of the United Nations Association to the Luton Campus. Nazia and David donated a wide range of items, to support all our students.
Amina said, 'Students have been telling us how financially difficult it is at the moment, so Beds SU has been at the forefront of offering support by providing food items to students in need through our pantry.
Additionally, the University has been supporting by offering on-campus meal deals in the canteens. We are hugely grateful to the Vice-Chancellor, Rebecca Bunting, for listening to and reacting so positively and quickly to our request.
It was also wonderful to invite Dr. Nazia Khanum and David Cheesman onto campus and see their enthusiasm to help our students. This will hopefully be the start of a fantastic relationship and hugely benefit students on all our campuses.'.
