Staying on Campus!
1. Create Your Own Festive Tradition 🎄
Just because you're not with family doesn't mean you can’t enjoy some holiday cheer! Decorate your room, make a holiday playlist, or even host a small Christmas movie marathon with friends who are also staying on campus. You can make the season special with your own traditions!
2. Stay Connected with Loved Ones 💌
It’s easy to feel homesick during the holidays, especially if you're far from family. Schedule regular video calls, share holiday traditions over Zoom, or send a few Christmas cards to loved ones. Staying in touch will help keep the festive spirit alive!
3. Treat Yourself to a Festive Feast 🍽️
Many grocery stores offer easy-to-make holiday meal kits. Grab some ingredients and treat yourself to a mini Christmas dinner—think turkey sandwiches, mince pies, or even some hot chocolate with all the trimmings.
Christmas dinner not your thing? Cook your favourite meal instead, it is not obligatory that everyone has to have a turkey and stuffing- If you’ve got friends around, cook together!
4. Look After Your Mental and Physical Wellbeing 💪
The holidays can feel quiet or lonely, but it's the perfect time to focus on self-care. Stay active with walks around campus
Also, take time for your mental health—do something relaxing like reading, or practicing mindfulness to make the most of your solo time.
5. Make New Friends
Now is the perfect time to build friendships with students who may also be around on campus over the festive period There are always students who, like you, can’t get home for the holidays or don’t celebrate the festive season. Reach out to these groups and build foundations so, when the University closes for Christmas, you all have a support network and are there for each other.

Going away for the break!
1. Check the fridge, before it goes rogue
Make sure you empty the fridge of any leftover pasta and questionable milk cartons! Nothing says ‘Happy New Year’ like the smell of something that’s been quietly fermenting over the holidays.
2. Switch gas and electric off
Just before you leave to go home, make sure everything is turned off. Electrical appliances? Off. Heating/boiler? Off. Kitchen AND bathroom taps? Tightly closed.
And remember, this includes turning things off standby – you might want to unplug everything to be extra sure.
3. Lock the door (but don’t forget Your Keys) 🔑
Double check that you’ve locked everything up securely. You wouldn’t want to return to a house that’s been visited by more than just your landlord.
4. Party safely
Christmas means Christmas parties. A time of celebration and Fun Enjoy so make sure it doesn’t end badly. Plan your journey to and from home and always make sure that your drink isn't left unattended. Always stay within a group when possible.
5. Enjoy Christmas
Whether it’s wearing those Christmas shirts , over-decorating the tree, or annoying everyone with carols… and don't forget to send us your selfies.
