World Mental Health Day is a day to raise awareness of mental health problems - one of our top priorities here at Beds SU and the University of Bedfordshire.
Let’s all contribute towards this important day. Scroll down to find out what YOU can do to support others, and what support is available for YOU when you need it. For more information as to why World Mental Health Day is so important to us, have a read here.
What are we doing today?
We're bringing back our popular initiative 'What makes you smile' from our smile campaign; giving everyone the opportunity to spread happiness and share techniques that they implement to bring about joy. If you're on the Luton Campus, stop by the Mezzanine Floor and visit our 'Smile Board' outside the Metro. Here you can share all the great things that make you smile. For those who aren't in Luton, we want to hear from you too! Send us in what makes you smile or different tips on how you manage your mental health. You can DM us on our instagram page @bedssu or email us at help@bedssu.co.uk. Looking forward to hearing from you all!
We're also showing the popular Disney film, Inside Out! If you find yourself in Luton this afternoon come on down and watch the film with us. You can find out more information about this here.
What support is available for YOU?
University can be an incredibly challenging period of time, whatever your prior experiences may be. It is not unusual to experience poor mental health at some point during your student journey and Beds SU encourages you to reach out for support as soon as possible.
In our knowledge-hub, you will find details of some trusted support services both within and beyond the University. If you still have questions or would like to discuss mental health support further, or if one of these worked well for you and you'd like to pass this on to others in a similar position, please contact help@bedssu.co.uk.
You can find the University’s information page on mental health support linked here.
We also have a self-help article on emergency out-of-hours support and contacts if you have any concerns with your mental health and wellbeing and you are not able to reach us.
