The week commencing 12 May is Mental Health Awareness Week and is an annual campaign Beds SU has always been passionate in supporting. From starting conversations to offering you opportunities to come together with fellow students.
The theme - Community
This year's theme is 'Community'. A recent Mind survey found that the trends in public perception, understanding, awareness and acceptance of Mental Health have started to go backwards. It is been acknowledged that the system is failing and people who face other challenges that contribute to poor mental health end up having the least access to support (Mind, 2025). Our job is to bring the community together to encourage good practices to improve on our mental health.
What we are doing at the SU
To start the conversation, we went to see what members of the Student Community here at the University of Bedfordshire do to manage their own Mental Health. Keep an eye out on our socials to find out the answers! Furthermore, Beds SU will be hosting a Mental Health Walk led by your President Seyi Lowo and Loredana Acueti, one of your Part Time Faculty Officers. This walk is open to all students and for more information, head to our events page or click on the link here. If you would like to come and join fellow students, chat to some members of the support team and enjoy a chance to relax then this is for you!
More Information
Teams and services from across the University will also be holding a variety of activities. Keep an eye on your MyBedsLife app for more details.
Please also remember, if you or someone close to you needs support, we have trained individuals on hand to support you.
