Following on from their nail-biting semi final win over South Africa (also shown Live in the Metro) the Nigeria Super Eagles took on host country the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations Final.
The game was streamed live in the Metro Bar on the Luton Campus and over 140 students came to support the two teams. It was an exciting match but despite going in front, Nigeria were unable to hold on and eventually lost the game 2-1.
There was fantastic atmosphere and Beds SU would like to thank all the supporters for making it such a brilliant occasion, even if the final result wasn’t what most of them wanted!
Chiderah Umeh, our Co-Vice President (Self-identifying Male/Non-binary) and Super Eagles fan said, "It was disappointing Nigeria didn't win but it was great to be able to watch the game with so many people. As an SU we will be looking to have many more events like this."
Super Bowl LVIII
The action didn’t stop there as later in the day the self proclaimed ‘Greatest Show on Earth’ kicked off as the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs took on recent rivals, the San Francisco 49ers in a rematch of Super Bowl LV.
The game was streamed live in The Hub in the Bedford campus and over 60 students came to watch while munching down on free hot dogs and nachos!
In a nerve wracking finale, the Kansas City Chiefs prevailed and became the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls in 19 years. The atmosphere was buzzing throughout and we want to thank all our students who came out and made it so special.
