Community Pantry success

Last year our Sabbs Team acknowledged the cost of living crisis and the impact on our students. With that in mind they wanted to create a ‘Community Pantry’ which would be a free emergency resource where students could access to get food and other essential items.

This year our Co-Presidents Chidera & Seyi and Community Pantry Champion Rochelle have been working hard to create a more sustainable pantry. We are currently operating in our Luton and Bedford campuses and also planning trips to our other campuses to make deliveries of essential items.

Reaching out to the local community for donations we are pleased to report that we have established great working relationships with The Luton Rotary Club, United Nations Associations - Luton branch and Luton and Dunstable Foodbanks. We have been overwhelmed with the donations received from these local charities, providing students with a more diverse range of food from cultures across the world.

We would also like to give a special thanks to retired UOB staff member Gordon Mellor, who generously donated his leaving collection of over £60 to the Community Pantry.
