Campaign Update: CLV and Refunds

Here is the latest on the campaigning we've been carrying out on behalf of CLV residents.

We wanted to keep you informed about an issue we have been campaigning on, as we know many of you have been having problems with your accommodation providers during lockdown. Many of our students feel they should have a refund on housing that they have signed up for as they have not been able to get what they paid for since COVID restrictions started in March 2020.

Lots of our students have been having problems with CLV who, in our opinion, have not provided the same level of response to students as other university housing providers. CLV have not been as willing to work with students or Beds SU in relation to offering students an acceptable solution.

What We've Done

Earlier this year we wrote to the university and asked them to consider taking action to ensure that CLV provided the same response as other housing providers. If they were not able to do this, we asked them to consider ending their contract with CLV.

The University of Bedfordshire replied to our letter and stated that they felt unable to investigate this matter or become involved in disputes between students and CLV. They also explained they were unwilling to consider withdrawing from their contract with CLV.

Beds SU was disappointed with this response but on reflection, we feel that we have no further legal avenues to try to get University of Bedfordshire or CLV to change their minds.

We therefore wanted to let you know this and to ask you to come forward and contact Beds SU if you feel that the University should be doing more to help students in terms of getting refunds and discounts for housing that has been affected by lockdown.

Share Your Experience

Please contact the SU to share your experience and let us know your feelings about what has happened. You can leave feedback with us in a variety of ways.

We are sorry we have not been able to achieve a more positive response that would have had a beneficial impact for students. However, we are committed to hearing your voice on this issue and campaigning to get a better, more favourable outcome.

We hope to hear from as many of you as possible.
