About Beds SU

Beds SU is the representative body of an ambitious, aspirational and diverse student body. Our vision as an organisation is to bring positive change to each student’s journey and to be championed by our members. 

Under our current 2021-25 strategy, 'With you on your journey', the Students’ Union has broadened its engagement with its diverse, multi-campus student body and influenced high level changes to improve the student experience.

95% of students agreed Beds SU creates positive change in the University – just some of the key changes we have brought about in recent years are:

  • Access to resources for students – from new textbooks to laptops for those experiencing digital poverty to increased hardship support from Government
  • Campaigning for the University’s provision to be tailored to the students we have
  • Successfully lobbying for cost of living support
  • Advocating for decolonised curricula, consistency in assignment briefs and employability streams in each course curriculum to enhance student outcomes
  • Successfully proposing relaunch of the University’s tutorial system. 

A student-led charity with 20 staff and two elected Co-Presidents at its helm, the business of our £1.63m charity is expansive: 

  • the representation and advocacy of students
  • professional advisory and information services
  • provision of communities, events and spaces for students
  • upskilling and extra-curricular student opportunities
  • trading, via a café, two nighttime venues and media and merchandising. 

Over Semesters 1 and 2 of the 2023-24 academic year, the SU recorded 30,000 engagements with students across just of its services; more than half the cross-campus student body engaged in an SU activity at least once.
